Yet Another Reason I Am A Sucker
By Matt Baker January 6, 2011
I just noticed today that Blu-rays have been announced for Star Wars, including a 9 disc set of all six movies for ~$180. And I can almost guarantee that at some point I will buy it (probably I’ll let it go on sale first). Because for all of my ranting about George Lucas and his money-grubbing, Star Wars destroying ways, I am one of the soulless automatons who perpetuates the Star Wars Machine. I have said in the past that I would not buy the blu-rays until the theatrical versions of the original trilogy get the treatment they deserve, but we all know that won’t happen. So the question is: Are special edition blu-rays better than no blu-rays at all? And the long and the short of it is that I just don’t know.
But why on earth would I get the box set that includes the prequels? I mean, sure the 3 discs of special features only seem to come with the full box set, but are they really worth it? Probably not. But I am a geek, and I’m proud to be a geek, and part of that is completion for the sake of completion. So I will buy those movies that I don’t even like and George will sleep on his huge pile of money. It is the way of the geek world. But I still insist that I will not see the 3D rereleases. Well, maybe if they are really good... or I get free tickets... or a bunch of friends are going....
